With an impressive resume and a remarkable pedigree, the latest addition to our stallion barn possesses credentials and qualities we just couldn’t pass up. Sound and fit at 18-years-old, Rex stands proud and distinguished after an illustrious international career.
Rex Grannus is nominated with the International Jumper Futurity (IJF) and the Performance Horse Registry (PHR). He is licensed with the Westfalen, ISR Oldenburg and Zangersheide.
Rex passed away in 2013.
Proven Performance
Previously owned and ridden by German Olympic Gold medalist, Reiner Klimke, the talented stallion successfully competed in the international ring as a Grand Prix level jumper, advanced level dressage horse and a Puissance jumper (6’10+”). In 1994, he completed the 100 day stallion test in Munster-Handorf, Germany. At Rex’s approvals in Westfalen and Zangersheide he was selected among the five best stallions for his “endless capability” and extraordinary elastic movement. Rex’s ability is a reflection of his fine lineage. His pedigree represents the finest names in sporthorse breeding and continues to be one of the most sought after lines in all of Europe.
Grandsire: Ramiro Z
Grandsire, Ramiro Z, was an exceptional sire as well as a winner at all levels of show jumping – Nations Cups, Puissance (to 2.2m) and many international Grand Prix competitions. The brilliant Holsteiner is the sire of many exceptional show jumpers including Ronald, Rinaldo, Rio Negro, and the famous Ratina Z, Olympic gold and silver medal winner in Barcelona and winner of the Volvo World Cup Final in 1993. Ramiro’s offspring also excel in dressage competition.
Rex’s sire, Rex Fritz, is listed as one of the Westfalen top sires. He’s produced 12 top class mares, 2 mares in the highest book of sport for mares, 12 licensed stallions, and 82 registered sporthorses.
Grandsire: Grannus
Rex’s other grandsire, the striking Hanoverian Grannus, competed successfully under Guido Klatte at the highest level of Grand Prix jumping. He sired numerous international jumpers including the Oldenburg, Grand Slam (Nick Skelton), Top Gun (Jan Tops), and the 2004 Stallion of the Year, Graf Grannus.

Rex Grannus has 18 foals registered in the Westfalen studbook (7 fillies, 11 colts). Additionally, 12 of his 22 foals registered with the ISR Oldenburg registry have been awarded Premium status. Many of his offspring have competed throughout Europe.
